What should the EU do?

One of the key debates about the EU is how far its remit should extend. Some think it should be limited to a few key areas essential to the promotion of free trade, while others would like to see the EU gradually become more powerful as part of a move towards an ‘integrated’ Europe. As a result, they take different views about what policy areas should be left to member states to resolve and which should be decided by the EU as a whole.

This section includes questions on what policy areas should be the responsibility of the EU and which left to the member states. It also includes questions on whether people think the EU has too much or little influence as compared with the member states.

Note that questions on how well the EU works can be found in Does the EU work?
